I didn’t want to get up this morning but some beautiful pink hues that were peeking through the drapes in my room gave me the motivation to pull myself out of bed.
I felt a nudge in my spirit to get up. Maybe something fun was waiting for me up there? The sunrise was very pretty. There were deer walking through the woods below the house. I took a deep breath.
As I opened the blinds in our kitchen, I saw a Mama deer standing below our bird feeder. She was stretching her long neck upward to see if she could reach the seed.
She was 2 inches too short.
She tried once more and then turned, touched her front feet to our wooden deck steps, and then walked into the grass and around the front of the house. Then a smaller deer came into sight. It did the exact same thing. Perfectly mimicking the mother.
I was reminded of a scripture verse in this moment.
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
Such a simple representation of what it is to follow and learn. Mama deer does this, baby deer does the same. Baby deer is learning how to do life.
Today I am grateful that God doesn’t expect us “to just know” how to do all the things right. He knows we need to learn, to have examples to follow, of which He is the greatest. Through Him we can learn and find rest in this crazy life.
DAY 2: Who are you grateful for? Who is someone you have learned from?
Bonus Challenge: Call or drop a note to someone whose footsteps you have followed. Let them know their impact.
With you,
Aimee
