November Gratefulness Challenge

Choosing to be Grateful: Day 18

This weekend I spent a lot of time with my nephews and nieces.

Today, I had a few special moments that I hold dear to my heart.

At lunch my 6 yr old niece said, “I’ve never made a quesadilla. I want to learn.” So a silent prayer that she wouldn’t burn herself while on my watch went up to the heavens and we began the lesson. She learned and made lunch for the family. No burns.

Before dinner I took my 8 yr old niece to run errands. What began with her question about if it is hard to drive followed by a comment about how men could not pick up a car after an accident to save someone, but God could, we ended up talking a lot about Jesus.

Her questions challenged me to think about faith like a child and that the questions she was asking God are ones we all should ask so that when we know, we really do know.

Then we bought her some boots and went for a raspberry steamer.

I learned 2 important things today.

1) When someone younger wants to learn from you, take the time to teach. Let them work it out. Be there to help. Enjoy their growth.

2) In listening to my niece with the intent to learn from her and about her, a beautiful conversation happened. Generational dialogue is powerful stuff. For both people.

Day 18: Who in a younger generation are you grateful for?

Bonus Challenge: Make a date with them. Learn something from each other and enjoy time together.

With a heart that’s full,

Aimee

18 “You shall therefore lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul…

19 You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you are sitting in your house, and when you are walking by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. – Deuteronomy 11:18-19
